The RedRunner Story
About RedRunner Designs
RedRunner Designs started in 2017 with one goal: build a capable, reliable adventure rig out of a humble 1997 Toyota 4Runner.
What began as “just a lift and some tires” quickly spiraled into a full-blown obsession with off road performance, custom fabrication, and making parts work the way we needed them to. Our red 4Runner, known online as @RedRunner97, became more than a build. It became our test mule, our weekend escape rig, our booth display, and the reason RedRunner Designs exists today.
Like a lot of off roaders, we wanted our 4Runner to drive comfortably on the road while still being able to flex and perform on the trail. After snapping one too many factory sway bar links, Tym built his first set from scrap metal in the garage... and they worked.
A few friends wanted their own. Then word spread through Instagram, Facebook, local off road groups, and the people we met out on the trail. What started as one extended quick disconnect sway bar link for a 3rd Gen 4Runner slowly grew into something much bigger.
First came the standard version. Then another customer needed something slightly different. Then another vehicle. Then another measurement. Then another “can you make this work?” Every new request pushed the design forward.
In the early days, RedRunner was as small business as it gets. Links were built to order, assembled on the kitchen counter, part numbers were written by hand, labels were cut out and taped to boxes, and every USPS flat rate box was packed as carefully as possible so the parts would survive the trip.
Today, RedRunner Designs has grown into a modular sway bar link system with nearly 50 configurations across multiple Toyota, Lexus, Jeep, Ford, truck, SUV, and off road platforms. Our products are locally machined in Simi Valley, California and surrounding areas, then hand assembled, inspected, packaged, and shipped by us.
We are not a reseller. We are not a giant warehouse brand.
We are two people building parts we believe in for people who actually use their vehicles.
Every RedRunner kit is built with the same hands on mindset that started it all. Our links are designed to be adjustable, rebuildable, and serviceable, using quality components like FK Bearing heims, Energy Suspension bushings, and hardware chosen because we care how these parts perform after the sale, not just how they look in a product photo.
RedRunner Designs is still a small, owner operated business based in Simi Valley, California. Tym handles the design, customer support, measuring, testing, fabrication, assembly, and mechanical problem solving. Colleen keeps the business moving through packaging, shipping, marketing, booth design, show prep, and all the behind the scenes details that turn garage built parts into a real company.
While we are an online only shop with no storefront, you can find us out in the community at events like Off Road Expo, Overland Expo, Yota Nights, SEMA, and our own Rigs & Relics gatherings. These events have become a huge part of who we are because RedRunner has never just been about parts. It has always been about the people, the builds, the trails, and the conversations that happen along the way.
RedRunner has grown one customer, one vehicle, and one trail tested solution at a time.
From a red 4Runner and kitchen counter orders to off road expos, new vehicle platforms, and a growing product lineup, we are proud of how far this adventure has taken us! We are just getting started.
Thanks for riding along on this adventure!
