Built to Evolve: Type 2 Updates, New Products & RedRunner Is Going to SEMA
It’s been a little while since we’ve posted an update here — but RedRunner Designs definitely hasn’t been standing still.
Over the past year, we’ve expanded our product lineup, developed new applications, listened closely to customer and retailer feedback, and continued refining the products that got us here in the first place.
And now, we have a pretty huge announcement:
RedRunner Designs is going to SEMA 2026 — and our 4Runner is officially going with us.
But first, we want to talk about an important update to one of our most popular products.
Listening to Feedback: Type 2 Quick Disconnects & Sway Bar Clearance
One of the things we take seriously at RedRunner is feedback — including the feedback that isn’t always easy to hear.
Our Type 2 Adjustable Quick Disconnect Sway Bar Links are designed to allow you to disconnect your sway bar quickly for increased articulation off-road, while still being able to reconnect for normal on-road driving.
As more sets made their way onto 4Runners, GXs and FJ Cruisers, we became aware of concerns surrounding sway bar clearance while disconnected on certain applications.
The issue wasn’t necessarily the link itself. Once disconnected, the sway bar is able to move through a much larger range than it does in its normal connected position. Depending on the vehicle, lift, suspension setup and position of the sway bar, that can potentially allow the bar to contact suspension components or the CV boot.
Instead of brushing those concerns aside, we wanted to find a better solution.
Working With Opt Offroad & Overland Custom Design
After conversations with Opt Offroad and Overland Custom Design (OCD), we began looking more closely at sway bar relocation as the solution.
Opt Offroad had temporarily removed our Type 2 links from their lineup while they investigated customer clearance concerns. They then began having customers test OCD’s Front Sway Bar Relocation Kit alongside our links.
The relocation brackets move the sway bar into a better position, giving it additional clearance when the links are disconnected.
The results have been extremely encouraging.
According to Opt Offroad, they have had no reported issues since customers began pairing the relocation brackets with our Type 2 links, and they now offer the relocation kit alongside the links as an add-on.
After talking through their experience and the customer testing, we decided to do the same.
RedRunner Designs now offers the Front Sway Bar Relocation Kit by Overland Custom Design directly through our website, and we recommend it for applicable 03+ 4Runner, GX and FJ Cruiser setups where additional sway bar clearance may be needed.
Our goal has never been to pretend every vehicle, lift and suspension setup behaves exactly the same.
Our goal is to keep learning, testing and improving the complete setup so our customers can get the most out of their suspension both on-road and off-road.
From One Sway Bar Link to Nine Types
That mindset has also led to a LOT of growth in the RedRunner lineup.
What started as a solution for our own 4Runner has now grown into nine different RedRunner sway bar link types, plus multiple variants and configurations within those types.
Our lineup now includes everything from traditional adjustable links and quick disconnects to bolt-on configurations, extended applications, heavier-duty hardware, application-specific designs and solutions for increasingly modified suspension setups.
Types 1 through 9 are officially part of the RedRunner family.
And we aren’t done.
Type 10 Is Coming
Yep.
Type 10 is already on the way.
We’re keeping the full details under wraps just a little longer, but development continues as we find new applications, solve new problems and listen to what customers are asking for.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the last few years, it’s that there is no single sway bar link that works perfectly for every vehicle and every build.
That’s exactly why the RedRunner lineup keeps growing.
And Then There’s SEMA...
This one still feels a little unreal to say.
WE ARE GOING TO SEMA 2026.
Even better, the RedRunner 4Runner is officially going to be inside SEMA as a feature vehicle.
The same 4Runner that helped start this entire adventure is now headed to one of the biggest automotive industry events in the world carrying the RedRunner Designs name with it.
For a small company that started by building sway bar links in a garage because we needed a better solution for our own truck... that’s a pretty incredible full-circle moment.
We’ll be sharing much more after SEMA — including the build, new products, partners, show updates and plenty of behind-the-scenes chaos along the way.
Built for Any Adventure — And Still Evolving
RedRunner Designs has grown tremendously, but the philosophy behind it hasn’t changed.
Build something useful.
Listen when customers speak.
Fix problems instead of ignoring them.
Keep improving.
And build products we’re comfortable putting on our own vehicles.
Thank you to everyone who has bought a set of links, tested a prototype, sent us feedback, recommended us to another off-roader, stopped by our booth at an event or simply followed along as this little company continues to grow.
There’s a lot more coming.
Type 10. New applications. New partnerships. And SEMA 2026.
We’re just getting started.
